Global technology and innovation consultancy Isle Utilities is growing its team and has appointed Matthew Stephenson as European director. Stephenson joined on 1 October and brings over 20 years’ experience in the water sector, most recently as director of Suez Advanced Solutions UK and previously at Bristol Water, a utility in south-west England.

Last month, the final Innovation Workshop for the INCOVER project took place in Almería, Spain. The agenda included a site visit to El Toyo WWTP (one of the four project demonstration sites) and a Masterclass on financial support opportunities to accelerate commercialisation.

The Urban Resilience Technology Approval Group (TAG) is a peer-to-peer platform for cities, municipalities and utilities across Europe that helps you to find reliable innovative solutions, knowledge and to learn from best-practices.

Isle is supporting the efforts of the Inter-American Development Bank to create the right framework for innovation in the water sector in Latin America. As part of this effort, a TAG innovation workshop will be organized during the conference IWA-IDB Innovation Conference on Sustainable Use of Water: Cities, Industry and Agriculture, happening on September 30-October 3 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The workshop will provide selected technology companies with the opportunity to present their products and create the opportunity to interact with Latin America’s leading water utilities.

Isle was commissioned by Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe (Netherlands) to undertake a feasibility assessment study to determine the planning and construction of a small scale sewage sludge mono-incineration plant. Several relevant mono-incineration operators and suppliers in Europe were interviewed and a horizon scan with phosphorus recovery technologies was issued to give Vallei en Veluwe an overview over the latest developments and technologies worldwide.

5 industrial multinationals and 3 leading water utilities have joined forces to identify and accelerate the uptake of innovative technologies to treat brines, the reject of membrane and other separation technologies. The global project led by Isle kicked off in June and will be finalised in September 2019.

Urban Resilience TAG took place in Rotterdam on 22nd May 2019, following a successful excursion on 21st May.

The European Junior Water Programme (EJWP) will kick off at the Water Innovation Europe 2019 week, from the 10th to the 14th of June. The EJWP offers young professionals a unique opportunity to learn essential skills, for example teamwork and collaboration skills. The EJWP also offers young water professions a unique opportunity to build valuable networks at an early stage in their careers.

Bethany Hall, Technology Consultant at Isle, was one of four experts invited to join a Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) panel discussion to explore whether circular economy thinking can transform the water sector.
