Francois is a passionate young biologist curious about the world of living things. Currently finishing his MSc in Microbiology at Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, Francois has experience with the bacteria and metabolisms involved in the activated sludge process.

His research is focused on the bacterial diversity of activated sludge using molecular biological techniques. Francois has an academic background in broad biological topics such as biochemistry, genetics, and microbiology. Francois also worked in the bioremediation industry, where he gained experience with monitored natural attenuation technologies based on fundamental biochemistry to treat mining and smelting process wastewater, as well as contaminated groundwater.

As an Environmental Scientist at iWater, prior to joining Isle, Francois was responsible for all aspects of his projects, including proof-of-concept demonstrations, project management, finances, treatment process control and maintenance management. Francois has a passion for water sustainability, biotechnology, and the circular economy.
