Thriving Through Transitions: Naiara’s Story of Empowerment at Isle

At Isle, we’re committed to supporting our team members every step of the way, especially during significant life transitions. Meet Naiara Fonseca, a valued member of our team who recently returned to Isle Utilities from maternity leave, ready to embark on an inspiring new chapter in her career journey.

Immigrating to the UK during a recession, she faced challenges head-on, pursuing her passion for environmental engineering against the odds.

Starting her journey at Thames Water, Naiara honed her expertise in wastewater technologies. However, the daily struggles of commuting eventually led her to seek new opportunities. Discovering Isle Utilities, Naiara was drawn to its innovative culture and diverse workforce, where more than 50% of employees are women, with over 30% holding PhDs.

From day one, Naiara felt empowered at Isle, given the freedom and flexibility to excel in her role as a project manager. She embraced new challenges, directing her career path and enjoying complete autonomy in her progression.

“I love to learn new things, and it was really refreshing to work on new topics,” Naiara shares. “Moving from Thames to Isle was a leap, but experiencing such freedom and growth from day one was incredible.”

At Isle, Naiara found a supportive community that prioritised her well-being, especially during significant life transitions like pregnancy. With understanding managers and a flexible work environment, she felt comfortable and supported throughout her journey.

“I felt really comfortable sharing my pregnancy with my line manager, Luiza, who had gone through similar experiences,” Naiara reflects. “Isle’s support didn’t end there; they encouraged me to take the time I needed and provided valuable tips for balancing work and family life.”

Today, back at Isle on a part-time basis, Naiara appreciates the flexibility that allows her to spend quality time with her daughter while pursuing her career. Whether working remotely or travelling to visit family, Isle’s supportive culture ensures she can thrive both personally and professionally.

Naiara’s journey back to Isle is a testament to the company’s commitment to empowering its employees.
