Lauren has applied her multidisciplinary skills and background as a chemist at major research institutions in the U.S. and Germany, with particular expertise in constituents of emerging concern, water reuse, and groundwater. In 2017 she moved to Munich, Germany with a U.S. Fulbright research grant to develop bioinspired filters for removing endocrine-disrupting chemicals in drinking water in view of EU chemical policy trends. Here she was inspired to better implement cleantech innovations beyond the lab, thus earning her M.Sc. Sustainable Resource Management at the Technical University of Munich. Her thesis with the chair of Urban Water Systems Engineering and the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection (StMUV) facilitated a knowledge transfer on contemporary best practices as gathered from top experts in Bavaria and her native California. Key issues included how constituents of emerging concern (e.g., PFAS) affect decisions on the diversification of water supply portfolios and sustainable groundwater management for drought-prone regions. Continuing her passion for clean and resilient water supplies, she is now a Technology Consultant in the German Isle team.
