The Big Picture

Understand how the water sector can proactively respond and work together with stakeholders in order to prevent further pollution and remediate past impacts.

Course Delivery and Context

This course has been designed for live on-line e-classroom delivery via Zoom, for interactive learning, in order to increase the learner’s awareness in specialist subject matter areas. It is part of the wider training Programme for Water Professionals facilitated by Isle.

Overview

Catchment Management provides an in-depth look into sustainable resource management approaches from a catchment perspective, in contrast to a piecemeal approach that artificially separates land management from water management. The course explores the major issues and changes required by all stakeholders, highlighting current research and available tools to aid better decision making. It will cover pollution pathways and explore prevention and management of pollution through no-build solutions vs traditional end of pipe solutions.

As water providers, we must both acknowledge and understand that there are competing demands for freshwater. The first step in protecting ecosystem is to protect surface and groundwaters to ensuring high water quality and quantity. To achieve this balance, stakeholders from within water communities as well as policy makers, farmers, regulators, NGO’s, wildlife and nature organisations require a greater collaborative understanding and transparent decision making to deliver solutions.

Who is this course for?

The course is designed for those working in the water, wastewater, environmental and sustainability sectors in any industry, and in particular the water industry or industries that are heavily reliant on water (construction, power, farming, manufacturing etc). The course provides an introduction to Catchment Management for those with industry knowledge however it does not require previous specialist Catchment Management expertise.
